Dahlias are considered one of the most spectacular garden flowers. They are simply outstanding and add an exotic and vibrant touch to your garden or landscape. With minimum care, these beautiful flowers bloom the first year from mid-summer until frost, and add a lovely spot of color in the garden.

Dahlias are a tender perennial that are vigorous and fast growing. Bulbs must be lifted from the ground in zones 7 and lower. It is an outstanding addition to the flower border or a container garden. Dahlias are an old-fashioned favorite, have superb, long lasting cut flowers, and are a welcome addition to the garden late in the season when other flowers are fading.

Dahlias are easy to grow! Plant them in spring after the ground warms to 50°F, in well drained soil in a sunny location. Dig a hole 3-4 deep, set the tuberous root firmly in place, and cover with soil and water thoroughly. Supply ample moisture and fertilizer during the growing season. When the plant reaches 1-1/2' in height, trim the entire plant to 1'. In about two weeks, trim back the plant again to about 1-1/2'. This will encourage your Dahlia to produce an abundance of flowers. Remove all spent flowers.
