Chinensis Finale is a compact featuring a bronze-green foliage mound with narrow panicles of very fluffy, pale mauve pink flowers on 15 to 18" tall stems in early to mid-summer. It is one of the last varieties to bloom and makes an excellent season extender to ensure that your shade garden remains colorful. It also can serve as a great groundcover. Chinese astilbes are generally noted for having better sun and drought tolerance than other species, though they still perform best in uniformly moist soils. It is slow spreading, and later blooming. Many gardeners leave the flower stalks in place after bloom because of the continuing ornamental interest of the dried seed heads.
