Tellers Blue hydrangea, also called ‘Blaumeise,’ has 6- 8” lacecap flowers (macrophylla) that are the deepest blue in acidic soils, and pinkish in more alkaline soils. Add aluminum sulfate to soil to make flowers more blue or add lime to soil to make flowers more pink(add any such soil amendments to plant root zone in late autumn or early spring). Mid-summer will find this shrub glowing with large flat flowers composed of very wide dense, deep cerulean blue to indigo sterile florets surrounding tiny fertile flowers even deeper in hue. The color holds well providing a flash of brilliant color through the summer. It blooms on old wood.
